

On Thursday, April 24, 2025, Vera Slutzky Zable, loving wife, sister, and mother of three sons, passed away from natural causes at age 86. Vera was born on March 6, 1939, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Irving and Bessie (Levick) Slutzky. Vera attended Oklahoma University and graduated with a degree in education in 1957. She moved to Dallas to pursue her teaching career, focusing on Special Education in the early 1960s. On June 16, 1963, she married the late Norman Arnold Zable, and together they raised three sons, Nathan "Barak," Brett, and Mark, in a loving partnership of 57 years. In addition to teaching, raising three sons, working in her husband's successful legal practice, and creating the Belgian Waffles concession at the State Fair of Texas with her husband, Vera was an accomplished tennis player and community volunteer receiving the Outstanding Service Volunteer award from the National Foundation of the March of Dimes and the Shofar Award from the Boy Scouts of America among others. Vera loved to travel, which included prolific shopping, boosting the local economy wherever she went, and was a total fashionista. Vera was preceded in death by her brother Bernard, father Irving, mother Bessie and her husband Norman. She is survived by her three sons, Nathan (Michelle), Brett, and Mark (Amber), and grandsons, Zachary Zable and Luke Browning. She is also survived by her brothers, Norman and Marvin Slutzky, and her nephews, Michael and Mark Slutzky of Oklahoma City. In addition, Vera will be deeply missed by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Phyllis Zable Langsdorf of St. Louis, Missouri, and her two nieces, Sarah Adess (Matt) and Elizabeth Langsdorf of Chicago, Illinois. Vera leaves behind a large extended family who she loved dearly.
A graveside service for Vera will be held Sunday, April 27, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Shearith Israel Memorial Park on Dolphin Road.
