Virgil Owen Musick Jr. was born in Wichita Falls, TX and grew up in Palestine,TX. He was the eldest son of Virgil Sr., a carpenter, and Stella Woodard Musick, a teacher. He graduated from Palestine High School and received a BBS and an MBA from Southern Methodist University, although he was always a loyal fan of the Texas A & M Aggies, where he attended for a short time.
Virgil met his beloved wife, Yvonne Preston Musick, at Grace Temple Baptist Church in Dallas when she was a senior in high school. After she graduated from Baylor University, they married on September 12, 1952 and they were married for 63 years until her death in 2016. They both loved serving in church. He was a deacon and she taught adult Sunday School classes. They and their daughters, Cindy and Kerry, were one of the initial families that started Calvary Baptist Church in Garland, first meeting in a warehouse and soon becoming known as "the warehouse gang."
Virgil served in the U.S. Army when they were first married and spent a tour as a radar specialist in Tulle, Greenland. Most of his career was spent in the field of transportation, working in the traffic department at Sears and Pollock Paper Co., then as Transportation Manager at DeSoto Paint, and as a transportation consultant at North Texas Traffic Bureau, and then opened his own consulting firm, Musick & Associates. He also taught transportation courses at SMU, Eastfield College in Dallas and community colleges in Paris, TX and Ft. Smith, AR.
After their retirements, the Musicks moved to Lake Kiowa and became active in the lake community where they enjoyed boating, playing bridge and he learned to play golf, which he loved. He was always a sports fan, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and his Texas A &M Aggies.
Virgil loved books...reading them, collecting them, repairing them and sharing them. He was a skilled bookbinder for over 40 years. He repaired countless family Bibles and rebound books for church libraries and SMU. He donated his collection of 180 Bibles to Dallas Baptist University and his vast Encino Press collection to SMU.
After 18 years at Lake Kiowa, they returned to Dallas and enjoyed living at Meadowstone Place Retirement Community until Yvonne's death. Virgil then moved to Longcreek Assisted Living in Sunnydale.
Virgil was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne; parents, Virgil Sr. and Stella Musick; his sister Anita Perry and his brother, Jack Musick.
