Virginia Fay Whitcher Brewer went to be with the Lord Friday, January 17, 2014 -- just two days shy of her 90th birthday – following a brief illness. On the day Virginia was born, older brothers Bill and Doug were playing in their Dallas backyard with a neighborhood friend, 5-year-old Tommy Brewer. Little did they know that this was the beginning of a lifetime of love, as “Jenny” and Tommy eloped to Rockwall on April 19, 1943. They were married 47 years until Tommy’s death in 1991. A commercial artist for the Oak Cliff Tribune and co-owner of Dudley Press in Dallas, Virginia was known for her love of church and family. In later years, “Gram” worked at Oates Park Day Care in Mesquite, where she spent several hours each day helping children with their homework, listening to their many tales and teaching them how to transform coloring books into works of art. She was a prayer warrior who stayed up many nights interceding for the needs of others. In addition to her husband, Virginia was predeceased by sons Douglas Joe and Jack Glenn Brewer. She is survived by her son Thomas Conway Brewer III and his wife, Ginger; son Jimmy Barrett Brewer Sr. and his wife Pat; son Michael Lee Brewer and his wife Kathy; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, at Grove Hill Funeral Home in Dallas, with the funeral scheduled 10 a.m. Wednesday at Connection Pointe Church (formerly North Mesquite Assembly of God), 2528 Oates Drive in Mesquite. Pallbearers will be grandsons Ron Gleaves, Robby Brewer, Micah Brewer, J. B. Brewer, Chris Murray and great-grandson T. J. Gleaves. The Rev. Mike Pettitt will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Connection Pointe Church.Arrangements under the direction of Grove Hill Funeral Home, Dallas, TX.
