

Virginia Dare Walker, born in Hasse, Comanche County, Texas on February 13, 1916, passed away in Dallas County, Texas on September 9, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents Mildred and T.C. Walker, her sisters Gwendolyn Blount and Fairys Sanders, her brothers-in-law Alan Blount and D.E. “Tony” Sanders, and her beloved nephew, Richard Blount. Miss Walker is survived by her nephew Mike Sanders, and her nieces, Carol Smith, Virginia Richmond, Sally Cowan, and Susan Vrana, 10 great nieces and nephews, and numerous great-great nieces and nephews. Virginia grew up on Parkview in East Dallas and attended Mt. Auburn Elementary School. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1933, and Abilene Christian College in 1938. She taught school for 40 years in Stiles, Granbury, and Dallas, Texas. She served in leadership positions in the education sorority Delta Kappa Gamma, and as a Sunday school teacher and volunteer for many years at Garland Road and Highland Oaks Churches of Christ. Virginia loved her friends, her students, music, travel, teaching, handwork, and crossword puzzles. Visitation will occur at Sparkman Crane Funeral Home, 10501 Garland Road, Dallas, Texas, 75218, on Friday September 13, 2013 from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Her final services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Sparkman Crane Chapel, followed by burial at Restland Memorial Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to Reinhardt Elementary, 10122 Losa Drive, Dallas, Texas, 75218, the children’s Sunday school program of your choice, or the Employee Fund at Christian Care Center, 1000 Wiggins Parkway, Mesquite, Texas 75150.
