

Wendell Albert JeanPierre was born in Santa Ana, California, however, was a lifelong resident of New Orleans, LA. He attended St. Augustine Catholic High School and received a scholarship to Xavier University of New Orleans. He also attended Dillard University and Southern University of New Orleans.
Wendell was a dedicated man, with a life filled with purpose and meaning, both to his country and fellow man. He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and worked as a bomb specialist/Ammunition Tech Inspector, receiving two awards, with an Honorable Discharge. He continued his military career later in life working as a Boarding Supervisor for the Coast Guard, retiring after 30 years of committed service.
During his adult life, he travelled the world as he fought for equal rights for all people. He stood up for and tried to be a voice for those that didn’t have a voice. He loved the Lord and leaves behind a beautiful Christian legacy for his family, children, grandchildren, and friends. He was a writer and intellectual. He was so honored to be chosen to the position of lecturer for Holy Spirit Catholic Church’s Knights of Columbus. His passion was writing articles for the Knights of Columbus’s Newsletters! Wendell was also honored to be chosen as the Chaplin for the Saint Augustine Purple Knights, opening every meeting with a prayer gathering.
Wendell was lovingly referred to by his nickname “J.P.” He loved spending time with family. Among his favorite hobbies were: music (he was accomplished at playing all of the woodwind instruments), gardening and growing his own food, and his all time favorite hobby was cooking. He commanded his kitchen military style (everything in its proper place). His family called him “Chef JeanPierre.” So much quality time was spent with him, around wonderful meals, talking about God and how to live a Christ-like life in the face of today’s many challenges.
He is preceded in death by his parents Rhea Mirabin Joseph of New Orleans and Wendell JeanPierre of Los Angeles; Stepfather Clarence Joseph, Jr. of New Orleans; and Brother Clarence “Skippy” Joseph of New Orleans.
Wendell “J.P.” is survived by his wife for 38 years, Connie M. Stampley JeanPierre of New Orleans; Sons - Malcolm JeanPierre of Ocala, FL, Maceo Jean Pierre of Albuquerque, NM; Daughter - Kelly Van Davis Hyatt and her husband John E. Hyatt, New Orleans; Grandchildren - Maceo JeanPierre, Diego JeanPierre, Unnas JeanPierre, and Chaz Kent Hyatt; Godchildren - Olivia Joseph and Catherine Joseph; Sisters and brothers - Maria Willis (Lawerence), Wallace Joseph (Carol), Gera Bridgewater (Joseph), Alexis King (C. Hunter King), and Faith Jackson (Carlos).
