

William D. Stafford went home to be with his Lord on Christmas Eve morning Dec. 24, 2011. Born May 13, 1926 in Orange, New Jersey. He moved to Orlando, FL and at age 11 moved to Dallas, Tx. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School. Bill served in WWII as a fire controlman 3rd class on the USS Hyman. Graduated from SMU in 1950 with a BBA, and Minor in Religion. He worked as a State Farm Ins. Agent for over 25 years and was on the board of the Sparks Osteopathic Foundation for 25 years as well. He was involved with Big Brothers and Sisters, and organized a prison Ministry at Hutchins State Jail called Operation Timothy (adults) and “A” Team (Ambassadors for Christ, youth). In 2002, he was Dallas County Volunteer of the Year, and awarded the Governors Volunteer Award for the State of Texas, and nominated by the Session, First Presbyterian Church for the National Award for the Presbyterian Church Volunteer of the Year. Bill was also a long time Elder of the First Presbyterian Church where he was active in the Stewpot and the Bridge. He was active in Bible Study Fellowship for many years as student and discussion leader. Bill loved his family and the time he spent with them. As a member of the Corinthian Sailing club for 20 years, Bill enjoyed sailing and racing on White Rock Lake with his wife Zoe and children. The whole family was involved in sailing and many times he would take the boat on family camping vacations. Bill enjoyed being active in his children and grandchildren’s lives. Bill’s hallmark was to help others and to be apart of their lives. He liked helping neighbors with their yard and was a great “fixit” man. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert W. Stafford, Sr. and Marion A. Stafford of Dallas and older brothers Herbert W. Stafford, Jr. and James M. Stafford II. Bill is survived by his wife, Zoe F. Stafford, and children Lynne M. Kartsotis and William D. Stafford, Jr. and two precious grandchildren.
Visitation is at Sparkman/Hillcrest, 7405 W. Hillcrest, Dallas, Wednesday 28th, 6:30-8:30pm. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday at 1:00pm First Presbyterian Church, 1835 Young St., Dallas, Tx.
