“A time to be born.” -Ecclesiastes 3:2 Wilma Delois Davis Reed Jackson was born on Tuesday, November 18, 1941. She was born to the late Erven Steen Davis, Sr. and Mozella Dansby Davis in Dallas, Texas. She was one of ten siblings.
“When I was a child.” -1 Corinthians 13:11 Wilma grew in wisdom and stature. Her parents taught her and instilled in her to love God and seek him to be the head of her life. She attended Oakwood Public Schools and graduated from St. Paul High School in Oakwood, Texas. After high school she attended Beauty School for she loved the art of being beautiful, poised and elegant.
“Whosoever believeth.” –John 3:16 Wilma was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age. Following the Christian beliefs that were instilled in her by her parents, she united in 1972 with Rice Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, under the spiritual guidance of Rev. Revel Simpson, and where she served
faithfully under several additional pastors--Rev. William Vaughn, Rev. O.T. Austin, Sr., Rev. Gregory Kimble, Rev. Ray Charles Emanuel and current pastor Rev. Kenneth R. Franklin, Sr. She was a faithful and inspirational singer in the Gospel Choir and Sanctuary Choir; church members loved to hear her sing special solos. She served in many capacities' including the Steward Board, the Losie Scruggs Missionary
Society, Daughters of Sarah, and the Care Committee for many years. Wilma loved her church immensely and supported Rice financially, she was ALWAYS available to work where she was needed.
“Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord” – Proverbs 18:22 Rev. Robert Jackson found Wilma the love of his life …and..he was the love of her life and they married December 4, 1998. They LOVED each other, they were inseparable, they traveled together, they prayed together, they loved their families and their family acronyms is FOE “Family Over Everything”—spending time with family was so important to both of them. She and Rev. Jackson were married for twenty years. He passed away on May 8, 2019. From a previous marriage, Wilma was the mother of two sons—Victor Reed and Christopher Reed; both preceded her in death. As a family, they attended Rice Chapel church for their faith… and … belief in God was their foundation. In her spiritual journey at Rice Chapel A.M.E. Church she was a faithful and dedicated member, she will always be remembered for her love of her church.
“Whatever you do, do it with all your heart.” -Colossians 3:23a As she was discovering her career path she worked for Mary Kay Cosmetics as a Cosmetic Associate—beauty was a passion and she wanted to make sure all women could accentuate their BEAUTY. Later in life she worked as an Insurance Agent and she retired from Booth Incorporated as a Supervisor. Her love for children and helping families allowed her and Rev. Jackson to become foster parents to several children. She was a very wise, faithful, and tenacious woman.
“A time to die.” -Ecclesiastes 3:2 “One glad morning, when this life is over, I’ll fly away!” Wilma’s earthly journey ended when Jesus called her home on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 in Dallas, Texas. Her parents, four siblings and great grandson—Derrick Pointer, Jr. preceded her in death.
“Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” -Proverb 31:31 Wilma Davis Reed Jackson leaves a legacy of kindness, and love for her family to cherish. To cherish her time in growing up together are her siblings—Erma Arnette Davis Campbell, Erven Steen Davis, Jr. (Sherry), Gwendolyn Davis Kisia, Daniel LeBlanc Davis and Jacqualyn Davis McCaulley. To remember her as being the best “Grandmother” ever are four grandchildren--Tia Langston Anderson (Chris), Octavia Reed-Nsiah (Robert), Derrick Pointer, Sr. (Jessica) and Damion Bryant. She was blessed to have sixteen great grandchildren and a special affection for Sherry (sister-in-law) but she ALWAYS
called her “daughter” and her dear friends Geraldine Robinson and Nancy Johnson. To always remember her loving and kind spirit are a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbors, and church members. Her legacy will be passed on for generations to come.
