Even when she was just at home she had matching pajama sets and silk robes to lounge in style. She had the loveliest perfumes, dresses, handbags and oh my goodness her shoe collection would make most women green with envy. She was a collector of beautiful things and inspired me to do the same. With her stunning bright blue eyes, warm million watt smile and beautiful blonde curls she was until the very end a timeless, classy beauty. She involved me in everything she did as I grew up with her, and as I’ve grown into an adult and parent myself I see how much she influenced me. My home if you were to walk in it has so much of her. I have so many of her paintings hung up with pride all over my home. I have an entire gallery wall in my living room dedicated and inspired by her artwork and personal style. I enjoy making art of all kinds in my free time inspired by her. She graciously allowed me to take quite a lot of her precious treasures to start my own home when I moved to Oklahoma at 19 with Derek. So not only do I have a plethora of her artwork, I’m blessed to have been able to use her beautiful dishes, glasses and cutlery to share meals with my family and friends on the dining table she gave me for the last 8 years. I have a deep passion for cooking nutritious meals for my family just like she did and I’m reminded of her every time I serve my family meals. I was given several articles of clothing, handbags, pairs of shoes and jewelry that I cherish dearly and wear with pride in her memory. She had so very much love to give to me, my grandfather her husband, my great aunts and uncles her beloved children, my cousins, her many other grand and great great children, extended family and friends and there was always more than enough to go around. She always told me to be sweet and stay out of trouble every time I’d walk out the door or end a phone call and I will spend the rest of my life trying to honor her.

I am so proud to be Winnie Faye’s granddaughter and I hope I can raise my son and brother in her image and continue to make her proud.

There are so very many things I want to say about my dear Nana I struggle to find a starting point. I suppose the best place is, I wouldn’t be the woman I am today without her unwavering love, guidance and support. She without a doubt saved my life. 
I had the great honor of being adopted by my great grandparents Winnie Faye and Gerald Hinger when I was in the fourth grade, my dearest Nana and my sweet Papa. She had opened her door to me many, many times in the years prior to that but finally decided I wasn’t going anywhere at that time. She provided me with a warm, stable environment in which I could have a change to thrive. I think back of my childhood spent in her and my grandfather’s magical home, the bedrooms all filled with every color there is, flowers, art and antiques galore, the most beautiful closets stuffed to the brim with the most fabulous clothes, the overflowing pantry and kitchen, the vast art room to create your wildest imaginable creative dreams, the thriving jungle-like gardens on either side of her home that I’d refer to as my own secret gardens and I just couldn’t be more grateful. I had all the space to explore every nook and cranny of her love filled home and just be myself with her right there by side. 
She was always there for me, anytime day or night even when I did not deserve her grace. With a gentle hug, kiss on my forehead, or pat on my hand when I was feeling down, to fresh cut fruit and homemade french fries anytime I wanted a snack, her warm embrace and love was the foundation of my childhood and adulthood. I thought my Nana was the most beautiful glamorous woman in the world when I was a little girl, and now that I’m grown I don’t think it, I know it. She was so very chic. She always made sure she had her hair, makeup, nails, purse, and outfit coordinated before she walked out the door and I’ve strived to do the same my whole life. I’ve strived to emulate her glamorous self my whole life actually.

I wish I had the words to describe what Winnie Faye meant to all of us as her family. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She was the most incredible artist, a master painter who created and inspired beauty everywhere she touched. She was also a talented gardener, sprouting up irises and elephant’s ears as if she were Mother Nature herself. There was something effortless about the beauty that she imparted upon the world around her. Grandma Winnie was timeless. 

For me, she was Nana - the most endearing grandmother, so full of unconditional and boundless love. She was a keeper, a collector of memories and keepsakes saturated with sentimentality. I remember I was going through her closet with her one day, and there was this old box full of curled up, dried flowers. I asked her about it and she said they were all the flowers I gave her.  She had kept every single flower I ever gave her - just in passing, as a little girl traipsing through her beautiful garden. That’s just how special she was. She had such a generous heart, a quick mind, and soft wit. “Stay out of trouble,” she’d say, or simply, “Stay sweet.” Honestly, I know I would not be the woman I am today had it not been for her influence, guidance, and pure love. 

Her love was a well that never ran dry, and you could always feel that love - even now, she keeps on giving, reminding me of how much she loved each and every one of us, and how blessed we were to know her. To know her was to love her, utterly and completely. 

The last thing she told me, with utmost seriousness, was this: “Don’t let the day get away from you.” Our days will go on, but I know in my heart that she will be loved and missed for always and forever.

Everything about Winnie was BEAUTIFUL!!! From her stellar always put together personal appearance to her radiant personality and unmatchable talent. Winnie could create beauty by just walking into a room. Whether she was creating art on canvas or in her garden one thing is for sure, where there is Winnie there is beauty!!! And that beauty will live forever!!!
