
Yale L. Clemmo, was born of Justin Clemmo and Lyda McDonald on January 8, 1921. Justin Clemmo was by trade a ranch hand, machinist and worked at many odd jobs making ends meet. Yale Clemmo graduated Massena High School in 1941 and worked at the Aluminum Plant for a year before enlisting in the Army Air Corps. Yale Clemmo received training at the Consolidated Aircraft School in San Diego, California, and the Harlingen Gunnery School in Harlingen, Texas then to additional training in Salt Lake City, Utah, Boise and Pocatella, Idaho, topeka, Kansas, and New York before being deployed overseas in 1943. Sometime between graduation and enlistement, Yale Clemmo married Marie Walrath on June 19, 1942, who preceded hm in death. Yale Clemmo had a colorful military history receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters. Yale Clemmo was gone to England for 11 month. During that time, Yale Clemmo was a seargent Engineer and gunner. There is a newspaper clipping of him shooting down a Nazi Messerschmitt 109 plane. Yale Clemmo when interviewed for a newspaper article, was asked if he was thrilled at the experience, he grinned like we al knew grandpa could and told the reporter "I was scared". Yale Clemmo was part of a crew which had 6 planes two of which were shot up too bad to ever fly again. Yale Clemmo flew thrity missions, and logged 187 combat housr and is credited with the plane he shot down. His military awards include European-African -Middle Eastern Service Medal, two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross and One Overseas Bar. Yale Clemmo after moving his family to Irving, Texas sometimes around 1947, had his own stable, where he bred and trained hores, worked at Vought Corporation and owned a Mobile Home Park which kept him very busy in retirement. In the later years Yale and Marie Clemmo moved to Kemp, Texas to be with family. Yale and marie Clemmo then had two children, Gregg Clemmo and Jill Foust, Yale and Marie Clemmo became grandparents with the birth of Richard Clemmo, Tayna Clemmo and Stacey Foust. Then great grandparents with the birth of Colton Clemmo, Tyler Lacy, Dustin Burns and Maddison Burns. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Wednesday, June 8, 2011 in the North Mausoleum Chapel at Calvary Hill Cemetery. Entombment will follow in St. James Mausoleum at Calvary Hill.
