Gilbert Lawrence Zander passed away September 2, 2014. He was born in Manheim in Lee County, on October 25, 1925 to Richard and Agnes Zander. After serving in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II, he attended school to become an airplane mechanic. He worked at Redbird airport for many years and upon retirement moved to Frost, Texas. He enjoyed the country life of gardening, raising cattle, bailing hay and going to farm equipment auctions. He appreciated the simple things in life like spending time with his grandchildren and bird watching. He is survived by his son, Mark E. Zander; grandchildren, Christie Zander Stampley and Jason Zander; great grandchildren, Dylan and Colton Zander and Natalie Stampley; brothers, Arthur and Erwin Zander, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Betty Zander, and brothers, Monroe and Edgar Zander.
Funeral Service's will be at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6000 S. R.L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, Texas on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 2:00 pm.
