Americo “Mac” Morgado, 87, lost his long battle with cancer on July 21, 2024 at Danbury Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Laura (Tadeau) Morgado, and his sons, Manuel Morgado and Andrew Morgado.
Mac was born June 3, 1937 on Liberty Street in Danbury. A life-long Danbury resident, he was a first generation American whose family emigrated to Danbury from Portugal in the 1920s. He received his early schooling at Locust Avenue School and dropped out of high school to take a job with the Mallory Hat Company and later Matz Lumber. Though circumstances did not allow him to stay in school, education was always a priority as he completed his GED in the 1970s and sent his two sons to vocational school and college.
In 1959 he married the love of his life, Laura, in Folgosinho, Portugal. Upon returning, he was employed at Amphenol before joining the Connecticut Army National Guard. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1966. Following his service he became an employee of the Risdon Corporation before working at Danbury Hospital where he retired in 1999.
Mac was a long-time parishioner of Sacred Heart Church where he served as a member of the Holy Name Society, sang in the choir and was a frequent volunteer at the church and school. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mac enjoyed his garden, playing with his grandchildren, restoring religious statuary and tinkering around his properties on McDermott Street.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Friday, July 26,2024 at Sacred Heart Church, Danbury, CT. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury, CT.
Friends will be received from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT.
