Brunetta Jara

Brunetta was born in the Bronx, NY to Frank and Christine Schiumo on January 5th, 1934. After several years, the family moved to Hasbrouck Heights, NJ where she attended school. As a young woman, she met Rudolph R. Jara, a Navy man, and soon after, they married on April 29, 1956 in Bronx, NY, where they took residence and had their first 3 children. In 1965, they built a home in Red Mills Estates and moved north to Mahopac where they had their 4th child. Brunetta later returned to the workforce and joined the Mahopac Central School District, where she worked until her retirement in 1996, when she and Rudy became snowbirds, spending winters in FL and summers in NY, and being with family and grandchildren at each home. While in Florida, she enjoyed spending time at and volunteering for the Greater Palm Bay Senior Center, where she made many friends. After her husband Rudy passed suddenly in 2001, she found love again and married Bill Eccles, also from Palm Bay. They spent 14 fun years together until his passing in 2017.

Brunetta is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Christine Schiumo; her husband Rudy Jara and second husband Bill Eccles. She is survived by her children: Christine Natale of Danbury, CT, Rudy (Donita) Jara of Palm Bay, FL, Nancy (Doug) Badolato of New Fairfield, CT, and Robert (Vanessa) Jara of Palm Bay, FL; brother Frank (Shirley) Schiumo of South Windsor, CT, along with grandchildren Rudy (Tiffany) and Alison Jara, Ryan and Krista Badolato, Austin and Christopher Natale, and Brooke and Haley Jara, along with many nieces, nephews and Godchildren.

Due to COVID restrictions, the wake and funeral services will be private. The burial has no attendee restrictions, and will be held at Ballard-Barrett in Mahopac, at approximately 12:30 PM on Tuesday, January 26.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Brunetta’s name to Alzheimer’s Association, The Smile Train or St. Jude’s Hospital.
