
Charlie was born April 12, 1916 in Danbury, the son of the late Joseph and Justine (Stavola) Arnone. He was a graduate of Danbury High School, Class of 1934-A. He was employed in the “wayout” section of the George McLachlan Hat Co. until WWII, when he joined the work force of the Remington Arms Co. in wartime production.
Charlie refused wartime deferment and enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he had served with the 95th Infantry Division in the European Theatre . He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge, suffering the loss of his left arm. After several months of rehabilitation at the Walter Reed Hospital, he was honorably discharged and awarded the Purple Heart.
Charlie attended the Crandell Secretarial School for two years, and later worked at the Gilbert and Bennett Wire Mill Company until the time of his retirement. He was a former lieutenant with the Padanaram Volunteer Fire Department, and was a student of the great band era of the 1930’s and 40’s, as well as an avid Yankee fan.
Besides his parents, Charlie was predeceased by his three brothers Frank, John and Michael Arnone, four sisters Rose Lipsi, Dora Arnone, Mary Weiss, Patrena (Jill) Larkin, as well as Frank Arnone. Charlie is survived by his nieces and nephews, Donald Lipsi, Justine Erdmann, Louise McDevitt, William Weiss (Lois), Justine Erickson (Fred), Joan Walsh (George), Christine Lilley (Charles), Marilyn Ehrhard (Robert), Charlene Maher (Terry), Kathleen Stuart (David),along with several grand nieces and grand nephews.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks for the loving care and support Charlie received from Mary, Jennifer, and the staff of Hancock Hall, as well as the staff of Maplewood of Danbury.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Saturday April 21st at St. Joseph Church, Danbury. Burial with military honors will be in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. The family will receive friends at the Green Funeral Home 57 Main Street, Danbury on Saturday April 21st from 9:30 to 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlie’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
