Carol was born on October 27,1935, to George and Lillian (Lansing) Glashoff in Brooklyn, NY.
Carol is survived by her sister, Virginia Lounsbury of Mahopac, NY, her four children, Joseph (Jeannie), Karen, Robin, Kristine (Timmy), and her precious nine grandchildren, Nicole, Stephanie, Courtney, Mace, Lindsay, Zachery, Tylar, Kyle, and Christopher. She was also the beloved Aunt of Ray (LuAnne), John (Sue), Barbie (Tim), Michelle (Ed), Robert (Lenore), Michael (Cathy), and Ginger (Tim). She is also survived by her life long friend Lillie Presser.
Carol was predeceased by her parents, her brother George and his wife Marie, and her husband of 67 years, Joseph A. Rist, Jr., and her closest friends Joan Smith, Peggy Wilson, Faye McKeon, June McGowan, Beverly Cutten, and Pat McMahon.
Carol loved traveling, both internationally and domestically. With her husband Joe, they saw all 50 states and as many National Parks as possible! Carol’s personal favorite vacation was anywhere near a beach where she could read, swim and snorkel, and traveled often to the Jersey Shore, the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Aruba.
She was a die hard Yankee fan, enjoyed spending family time at “The Farm”, attending her grand kids recitals, sporting and musical events, and singing "You Are My Sunshine" and her Hendrick Hudson high school Alma mater. Carol joined a metal detecting club and loved to search for treasures within the US and abroad. Her most exciting trip was to Russia with her husband Joe to see first hand the country that held their generation in such fear during the Cold War. With her friend Faye McKeon, they started a camping and hiking association chapter called the Sing Sing tribe with the National Campers and Hikers Association. We all enjoyed those weekend camp outs with pot luck suppers and participation in Camping Jamborees throughout New York State!
In addition to raising four children Carol enjoyed working at O. Rundle Gilbert Auctioneers in Garrison, where her love of antiques and fine china, was developed. In Peekskill she worked at Fleischmann’s Vodka manufacturing plant with her best friend Peg, and was a phone operator at Peekskill Answering Service on Washington Street. However, her favorite place of employment was at West Point Military Academy where she worked until her retirement in 1992.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date where we will honor not only her memory, but that of her husband Joe, her brother George and his wife Marie. Too many of our loved ones lost this past year.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that you donate to the Alzheimer's Association for research and a cure for this disease.
