

David Yin Lau, aged 83, passed away on May 3, 2025 surrounded by his family in New York City, NY. David immigrated to the United States in 1952 and exemplified the American dream. He was the oldest of 6 siblings and grew up working in a laundromat in Harlem in the time of ironing clothes with a hefty piece of hot cast iron. From humble beginnings, he graduated from the New York Institute of Technology and earned his MBA at Adelphi University with an additional 100 credits in physics at various institutions.
He moved to New Fairfield, CT in 1971 and for over 30 years, he was a physics and science teacher primarily at Brewster High School where he made a lasting impact on his students, with many of them running to say hello to “Dr. Lau” decades later when they saw him around town. In addition, David was a prolific and industrious entrepreneur, running a Chinese restaurant, a dry cleaning business, a laundromat, a real estate business and a gas station at various points in his life. He had a great love of fishing, tai chi and Chinese cuisine and was always on the lookout for a bargain. David was known for his curiosity, generosity and sociability, always looking to strike up a conversation with anyone around him, and his joie de vivre.
David is survived by his wife of 56 years, Tammy, and his children, Ronald (Jamie), Kevin and Steven (Elaine) and his grandson Cameron.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025 at Green Funeral Home at 57 Main Street, Danbury, CT from 10:00am to noon.
David’s legacy of kindness, joviality and love for his family will be forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew him.
