Born in Harlem, NY on June 22, 1942 to Rubin and Helen Maser, he attended Yonkers High School where he was an avid swim team participant, graduating in June of 1960. David then attended Hunter College where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in June of 1965
David enlisted into the US Army in 1965 and was stationed in Germany for a couple years.
After leaving the Army, David met his better half, Sandra Shapiro, and they married on October 11, 1969 and were happily married for 56 years.
Although he proclaimed that the worst 4 letter word out there is “work” and that he took pride in getting OP’s (other people) to do the dirty work around the house as he got older, he was an extremely hard working and loving individual who worked tirelessly to provide for his family and be there for his wife and two children.
David never let a good joke slip through his fingers and even held onto a few bad ones just to round out his repertoire. His infectious attitude and loving personality was beloved by everyone he met as he could easily carry on in-depth conversations with total strangers (which explains why he was so successful in his sales job for 30 years).
David was a kind and giving man who constantly helped others out because it was the right thing to do, never expecting any pats on the back or anything in return. He and his wife Sandra opened their home and helped get housing for many Russian Jews leaving the country for a better life in the 80' & 90’s. He also bought and donated used computers to help middle school students in the Bronx at the school his son taught at. He taught his children how to help those less fortunate by doing, not by saying.
David is survived by his wife, Sandra; his two children: Amy and Gary Maser and his two grandchildren: Skylar and Tye Maser.
Currently no public services are planned but David’s children are contemplating having an epic dad joke competition. The winner gets to donate their life savings to the organizations below in David’s name:
