
Dorothy Wixted Kane, 89, of Danbury, died peacefully on October 5, 2012 at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late Joseph D. Kane. Mrs. Kane was born on May 3, 1923 in Danbury, CT, a daughter of the late Sylvester and Grace Freeland Wixted.
A lifelong Danbury resident, she was a graduate of St. Peter School in Danbury, Danbury High School and Western Connecticut State University, then Teacher’s College. Mrs. Kane taught first grade for 30 years in the Danbury School System before her retirement in 1979. She was an active member of St. Peter’s Parish, serving as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a kitchen volunteer at church bingo, where she was affectionately known to all as “Nana”, and famous for her homemade pies and cakes. She was bestowed the medal of St. Augustine by Bishop William Lori of the Diocese of Bridgeport in honor of her dedicated service to St. Peter’s Parish.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, James. She was also predeceased by her brothers: Sylvester, Charles, Francis, Robert, Edwin, William and Leo, as well as her sisters: Mary Gorman, Grace Zwyner and Elizabeth Gallagher. Survivors include her sister: Joan Sullivan of Farmington, CT. Her two sons: Robert of Danbury and Daniel and his wife, Angela, of Oxford, CT. Her daughter: Marita Sasso and her husband, Christopher, of Danbury. Her beloved grandchildren: Anthony and Dominick Kane, Marybeth, Anne and Anthony Sasso, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30am at St. Peter Church, Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends will be received on Monday from 5pm to 8pm at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury. Contributions in Mrs. Kane’s memory may be made to St. Peter Church, 104 Main St., Danbury.
