Dorothy was born on September 11, 1928, in Jamaica, NY, to Henry and Hermina Bischoff. She grew up in Long Island, New York, and graduated from Brown's Business School. Dorothy worked in Manhattan at First National City Bank until she moved to Connecticut. She then worked in clerical positions for the State of Connecticut both at Danbury Regional Center Southbury Training School and Western Connecticut State University until her retirement in 1986.
While vacationing to Candlewood Lake, Dorothy met her first husband, Edgar Fairchild. They married in 1952 and raised two children in Brookfield, CT. He passed away on July 25, 1972. Although she became a widow at a young age, Dorothy was lucky enough to find love for a second time with Donald Murray, whom she married in 1991, and enjoyed her retirement with.
Dorothy was an extremely loving and caring woman, who always saw the good in others and found joy in the simplest of things. Everyone she met loved her beautiful smile, her kind spirit, and pure heart. As a mother, Dorothy was welcoming to all of her children’s friends, opening her home to everyone by entertaining and feeding them whatever their hearts desired. Always a lady, she loved eating out at the many restaurants in the area and shopping at T.J. Maxx. Her spirit will be missed greatly, but never forgotten.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter: Christine Fairchild; her son, Randy Fairchild and his wife, Beverly; three grandchildren: Jennifer Badillo; Joseph Fairchild and his wife, Jessica; Katherine Mellen and her husband, Brendan; and three great-grandchildren: Violet, Kellan, and Jack.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Edgar Fairchild, and her second husband, Donald Murray.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Soltis and Robin from Palliative Care of Danbury Hospital and Regional Hospice of Danbury home care with Ali, Denise, Emily, and Sam along with all of the doctors, nurses, and aides, for their compassionate care, support, and kindness.
The family will celebrate her life in a private gathering on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at Mountain View Cemetery in New Fairfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dorothy’s name may be made to Regional Hospice of Danbury, 30 Milestone Road, Danbury, CT 06810, or your favorite charity.
