

Edward Earl Blackman, 70, died Friday, September 14, 2012, at Danbury Hospital, in Danbury CT, following a brief illness with his wife and children at his side. He leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Suzanne (Southard) Blackman, twin sons Christopher and Thomas Blackman, his Mother Viola Blackman, two sisters, Patricia Colbert, Barbra Curtis, three Grandchildren Megan, Valorie, and Christopher Blackman; cousins, nieces, nephews, and many close friends. Born in Norwalk and raised in Redding, CT, and the son of the late Earl Blackman.
A graduate of Danbury High School class of 1960, he then joined the Air Force, serving from 1960-1964. Immediately after serving in the Air Force, he joined his father working for the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad. He then went to work for Penn Central, Conrail, and after 38 years retired from Metro North Railroad in 2004. He met his wife Suzanne at a social gathering in 1971 and they were married August 31, 1974, at the Christ Church in Redding CT. They moved to New Fairfield in 1974 where they raised their twin sons. Mr. Blackman had a passion for his family and railroading. In 1994 he helped to form the Danbury Railway Museum, in Danbury, CT. He held several positions, member of the board of directors and President. He actively took part in museum and community events.
Memorial services will be held Monday September 17th, 2012, between the hours of 5-8pm at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St, Danbury CT 06810. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the American Cancer Society 38 Richards Ave., Norwalk, CT 06854.
