Frank A. Conover of Newtown, CT passed away on January 19, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Jean (Mariani) Conover. She was the love of his life and they would have celebrated their 40th anniversary this May. Frank, the son of the late Frank Conover and Beatrice (Beaver) Conover, was born on October 5, 1927 in Tarrytown, NY. He graduated from Ardsley High School in June 1945 then, in July, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After serving in the Corps for two years, he attended the American Institute of Banking in New York City. He worked on Wall Street until he joined the New York State Police in 1954, and spent his first years as a trooper in the Brewster, NY barracks. In 1962, he was assigned as an Investigator in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Troop K. Frank was cited numerous times for his investigations into several murder cases in the Brewster area, and in 1976 became the first state policemen to be awarded the Westchester County Grand Jury Association distinguished service award. Frank loved his work in law enforcement and was especially proud of his involvement in the Pardue bank robbery case in Danbury, CT in the early 1960s. After retiring from the state police in 1977, he worked in the Department of Special Investigations of the Hartford Insurance Company where he became Director of the department before he retired. In his retirement years, he joined the Newtown Country Club and became an avid golfer. He was also a member of the Newtown Veterans of Foreign Wars. Frank will be sadly missed by his wife, Jean, two sons, Allan Conover of West Windsor, NJ and Robert Conover of Indian Trails, NC, and his beloved grandchildren, Michael and Jennifer Conover. His loss is also mourned by his sisters Marjorie Travis and Shirley Crisi, his nieces, nephews, great- and great-great nieces and nephews, and an amazing number of friends from all his life experiences. All who knew Frank will remember fondly a man with a giant personality, a great storyteller, and a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was a one of a kind, larger-than-life character who brought much life and laughter to all who knew him. There will be no calling hours, and services will be for family only. Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Ann’s Place, 80 Saw Mill Rd., Danbury, CT, 06810.
