George C.S. Bogart, 93, of Brookfield, CT passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Filosa in Danbury CT. He was the husband of Jana S. Draper. His beautiful heart was finally unable to keep him going any longer.
George was born in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico August 12, 1932, to Ophelia Gonzalez Ruede (Mexican citizen) and Clarence S. Bogart (American citizen). In Torreon, he attended schools in both English and Spanish until he was eleven and his family moved to New Jersey and then on to Laguna Beach, CA. Following graduation from community college, he attended UC Berkeley.
His education was interrupted by his draft board. George served in the Army in the Military Police at Ft. Clayton, Panama Canal. Once he completed his service to our country, he completed his BA degree in Chemistry.
Three things he would enjoy his whole life began during these early years. He began backpacking with the University hiking club and continued hiking and camping all his life.
He took up Scottish Country Dancing. After many years in California, he moved first to New Jersey and then Connecticut where he remained 33 years. A life member of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, he earned his teaching certificate. He taught, danced and performed Scottish Dancing with the Los Angeles Branch, New Jersey Branch and Loch Leven Team.
George also began the Scottish Highland Bag Pipes, once again teaching to share his knowledge with others. For many years he would play Auld Lang Syne from the balcony of his home on New Year’s Eve. As he settled in Connecticut, he discovered the Carillon at St. James’ church where he worshiped. For the last thirty years or so he played that carillon and helped organize the summer carillon concerts.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Whitney M. Bogart; his grandchildren: Kim Mansson and Freja Lise-Lottes; a great grandchild, Rafael Bogart; his sisters: Claudette Bogart and Shirley Height; and a brother, Gerald Bogart.
George was predeceased by his older son, Clinton G.E. Bogart.
