George was born on December 20th, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY, and married Maria Rosaria Affinito of The Bronx on October 4th, 1964. They resided in Brooklyn for a few years, then raised their three children in the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx before moving to Danbury in 2001.
George served in the US Army stationed in Hawaii before beginning his career with The Bowery Savings Bank. During his 45-year career, he worked his way through various departments of the bank as well as mergers and acquisitions. He retired as a Vice President in Facilities management at Green Point Savings Bank where his incredible work ethic, genuineness, and loyalty to others gained him the respect of all that encountered him.
George was an amazing cook. He loved spending time in the kitchen along with his wife and children creating his version of many different cuisines. Holidays were spent hosted at his home and a seat at the table was always welcome to all. He looked forward to themed dinners, parties and posting his handwritten menus on the refrigerator.
While raising his children, George took his family on many driving vacations across the United States. After retiring, he had the opportunity to travel with his wife to several countries and destinations within and outside of the United States. He had many wonderful memories created during his travels.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Maria; daughter, Claudia Edgar; sons Mark and Matthew Siliato. George treasured his six grandchildren who adored him. He was a devoted and supportive family man with unconditional love for all of us and we will miss him greatly.
George would often recite sayings from his beloved grandfather. One of his favorites was when asked how he was doing. He would answer “The first hundred years are the hardest”.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys in Brookfield, Monday, June 13th at 11 am.
George’s family wishes to extend our sincere gratitude to the entire staff and many volunteers at Regional Hospice who cared for him in his final days. Their compassion, empathy, and kindness to George and his family gave him the gift of dignity, honor, and peace that he well deserved.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Regional Hospice of Danbury in George’s name would be greatly appreciated.
