Georgina (Gina/Gi) Moreira De Souza passed away on February 7, 2026, in her home in Danbury. She was born on May 2, 1959, in Vila Nova De Gaia, Portugal to Antonio Pinto Moreira and Alcina Magalhaes Correia.
Gina came to America in 1986 where she soon met her husband, Joaquim Francisco De Souza. The two were married on September 30, 1989, in New Rochelle, New York where they had their son Richard Moreira Souza on July 17, 1990, and their daughter Melanie Moreira De Souza on February 8, 1994.
In 1995 Gina moved with her family to Danbury, where she resided for the remainder of her life. Gina was well known for her strength and joy even through her long and hard battle against cancer. Even through all the hard times, Gina found joy in caring for her family, especially her four grandchildren. Gina spent a life visiting the sick and poor, often traveling the world to be with those in need. She loved traveling to new places and brought so much strength to those around her. Although her fight was hard, Gina was often the person who brought much laughter and happiness into every place she entered.
Gina served in her Ministry of Piety since June 2008 where she visited families and prayed with them, often helping them spiritually or materially through the Church of The Christian Congregation in the United States. Gina devoted her life to serving the Lord and was steadfast in her faith, never wavering or allowing her fears to become greater than her certainty in God. Her absence will always be felt but the memories of her fulfilling life will always bring joy and comfort to those who were blessed to know her.
Gina is preceded in death by her parents Antonio Pinto Moreira and Alcina Magalhaes Correia. She is survived by her spouse, Joaquim Francisco De Souza, her children Richard (Thamyres) Souza and Melanie (Joao) Marcondes, as well as her sister Lidia Moreira and her brother Vitor Moreira. Her four grandchildren, Ezra, Riley, Violet and Lorelai will cherish their grandmother’s memory forever.
Her family will receive visitors from 10 AM - 1 PM on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Green Funeral Home located at 57 Main St., Danbury. A funeral service will begin at 12 noon.
Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery.
