Hail (“Herman”, as his family affectionately addressed him) was born in Greenville, NC, and was the son of the late Noah Stocky (Papa / Popper) Mourning, Sr. and Anna Jane Blunt-Mourning. He was the 13th biological child of his father, and the 6th child of his mother. He never married, and he did not have any children.
Herman also lived in Bridgeport, CT for a number of years and was well-known within the church community. While living there, he became an Ordained Minister under the direction of the late Bishop Curtis E. Mouning (his nephew) of Gospel Temple Church of God in Christ, and held a prestigious office position in the church!
While residing in Danbury, his career was in the food industry as a Steward with Sodexo at Western Connecticut State University.
Herman was also well-known and loved by many in both Danbury and Waterbury. In fact, he received a key “seal” to the city of Danbury. He was highly esteemed and loved by his church community. One of his favorite songs to sing before giving his testimony was, “I’ve got so much to praise the LORD for.”
Herman absolutely LOVED music and dancing. In his own words…”I’m the King of Dance, and I was smooth too!”.
All in all, he was the last born child to both of his parents (who along with all of his siblings predeceased him). His siblings' names are as follows: Sophia Mouning-Armstrong, John William Lacy Mouning, Exline (Mouning) Jones, Jessie Mouning, Lallie Mae (Mouning) Perkins, Beatrice “Classie” Mouning, Violet (Mouning) Robinson, Dazelle (Mouning) Payton and an unborn sibling (all of whom were born of their father and his 1st wife Dinah Phillips-Mourning...and an unborn sibling); an older, unnamed female sibling given up for adoption born to his mother, Anna, James “Shug” Barnes Mooring (son of Anna and adopted by Papa), William Henry Mourning, Noah Stocky Mourning, Jr., and Clara (Mouning) Phillips (all of whom were born of their father and his 2nd wife Anna Jane Blunt-Mourning, Herman’s mother).
Herman leaves behind a HOST of nieces and nephews, well into the great, great, greats, which calculates into the hundreds. Our Beloved Hail Herman Mourning was indeed a VERY Blessed Man, and God saw it fit to BLESS our Big Beautiful Family for him to be in our lives. To God be the Glory!
Psalm 23
The LORD is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil;
for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.
Thou prepares a table before me in the presence of mine enemies,
Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. AMEN
