John (Jack) Joseph Candito was born on October 17,1937 in Bridgeport, CT to Philip and Angeline Mascendaro Candito. He graduated from The University School and attended the University of Bridgeport and The Williams College School of Banking.
He married Katherine Christine Denninger on October 20, 1962. Together they raised Phillip J. Candito, (Amy), Micheal J. Candito, (Lisa), and Christine Sontag, (Peter). Jack was enormously proud of his nine grandchildren. Sara, Lyndsay, Megan, Addyson Bullen and Phillip Candito Jr., Owen and Zoey Candito, Justin, and Kayleigh Sontag.
Kathy was the love of his life. They were still sweethearts after 60+ years of marriage. They met at a wedding and were married across the street from their meeting place in the Chapel of St. Margaret’s Shrine in Bridgeport Ct.
After growing up in the City of Bridgeport, Jack moved with Kathy to Bethel CT and began a country life together.
Jack started his banking career as a teller in 1962 with the former Citytrust Bank. When the Bank transitioned from paper to computerization, Jack moved with the technology going from computer operator to assistant Vice President. When Citytrust merged with JPMorgan Chase, Jack was retained and continued his banking career retiring as a Second Vice President in 1997. Not ready to stay home, he joined Pitney Bowes to prepare for their Y2K Project, retiring a second time in 2004.
Jack was always involved with his children. Coaching Soccer and actively being a Den Father for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. He also advocated for his daughter and made sure she was able to participate in physical therapy appointments before he went to work.
Jack and Kathy built their retirement home in Wellfleet, MA in 1995. Summers were spent on The Cape with Family, Friends, and the many Grandchildren. Bathing suits, wet towels, lots of sand and bike trail adventures followed. Jack even dabbled in the occasional oyster harvest.
Throughout the years Jack and Kathy loved to travel and experience other cultures. They have been fortunate to have toured most of Europe and the Greek islands. They have also visited all the major national parks in the US and toured throughout Canada, including a camping trip and white-water rafting at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.
Jack loved to play and teach card games. He won more often than lost the game and was always ready to tell a good joke if the play slowed down. His place at the table will be exceedingly difficult to fill.
