
He was born Feb. 19, 1933, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Gaetano and Rosa Maratea DiMatteo.
He studied woodworking and auto mechanics. John was a Korean War Veteran serving in the Navy. He was a Longshoreman on the Brooklyn waterfront, a licensed locksmith, spreadsheet enthusiast, and retired from IBM after a long career as a manager and financial analyst.
He was a resident of Bethel from 1971 until moving to North Ft. Myers, Fla., in 1994. He returned to Connecticut in 2012.
He is survived by a daughter, Roseann DiMatteo, and her husband Albert Burgasser, of Sherman, and a son, John J. DiMatteo Jr., and his wife Kathryn Muller of Redwood City, CA. He was predeceased by five siblings and is survived by a brother-in-law and several sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 12 noon.at St. Joseph Church, 8 Robinson Ave, Danbury, CT 06810.
