John A. McGarry, age 88, husband of the late Polly Ann Kakadelis McGarry, passed away on March 29, 2025 at Spring Village in Danbury, CT. John was born on June 13, 1936, in Mineola, NY. He was the son of John and Elizabeth (Brennan) McGarry.
With his family, John moved to Danbury at age 17 and graduated from Danbury High School in 1953. He attended college at night to further his studies.
John was a proud member of the Danbury Police Department and later the Detective Bureau where he served for many years. He enjoyed attending sports and police functions and donated to many charities.
In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by his wife Polly Ann and his daughter Elizabeth.
He is survived by four sons: Kevin (Carolyn), Peter (Jane), Michael and John, grandchildren Matthew (Stephanie) McGarry, Amanda (Anthony) Csizmadia, Samantha McGarry, Sarah and Jarett Cinqmars, Madelyn Gray, and Maggie and Christina McGarry and great-grandchildren, Shea McGarry and James Gray, and numerous friends he’d made throughout the years.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury.
