Kathryn M. Curran

Kathryn M. Curran, age 90, of Danbury, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Danbury Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Thomas F. Curran. Kay was born in Ridgefield on October 7, 1922 to Lewis & Agnes (Leary) Barrett. She graduated from Danbury High School and Danbury Teachers College. She was a teacher in Watertown and Danbury (South Street School) before she became a stay at home mom to her four children. Kay later went back to the classroom, first teaching at DATAHR and then spending 20 blessed years at St. Peter School in Danbury.

She was a daily communicant and Eucharistic Minister at St. Peter Church where she was a member of the Ladies' Guild and St. Monica Mothers' Circle. She later found rewarding ministries at St. Peter’s as a “Countess,” laundering altar linens and working in the kitchen at weekly bingo.

Kay is survived by her children Patricia (James) Ellsworth of Redding, Thomas (Ellen) Curran of Newtown, Kathleen (Thomas) Fitzsimmons of New Milford and Eileen Curran of Danbury. She is also survived by her sister Patricia Barrett of Danbury, eight grandchildren, Sean Ellsworth, Molly Ellsworth, Moira Curran, Patrick (Ginny) Curran, Colin Curran, Ryan (Nicole) Fitzsimmons, Kevin Fitzsimmons and Caitlin Fitzsimmons, and Erin Fitzsimmons, her beautiful great-granddaughter. Besides her husband, Kay was predeceased by her beloved stepmother Grace (Hart) Barrett and her grandson Timothy Fitzsimmons.

Kay’s family wishes to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff of 9 East at Danbury Hospital for their professional and loving care and support over the past two weeks.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Monday May 20, 2013 in St. Peter Church, 104 Main St. Danbury. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Sunday May 19, 2013 from 5-8 PM. A private burial will take place at a later date.
