

Mabel A. Smith Torrey, 93, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at Shady Knoll Health Center, Seymour, Connecticut. Previously she lived for many years at the Southampton Estates in Southampton, Pennsylvania. She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel E. Torrey.
Mabel was born in Allison Park, PA, daughter of the late Lewis Oliver and Mabel Smith. She was a graduate of Alleghany College and received a master’s of library science from Case Western Reserve.
After her marriage in 1951, she and her husband relocated to Philadelphia and then on to Feasterville PA.
Mabel served as the head librarian at the Lower Southampton Township Library for many years.
In her free time, she demonstrated her skills as a proficient knitter, seamstress and a master in needle work. She was an avid bridge player and showed her competitive spirit and wit whenever playing card games and dominos with family and friends. She enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the US and Europe, during which she amassed her prized collections of miniature tea sets, Santas and angel figurines.
Mabel is survived by her older brother Lewis Oliver (Dorothy) of Valparaiso, Indiana; daughter, Deb Torrey; daughter, Judy (George) Catalano; and son, Dave (Sara) Torrey; and grandchildren: Joshua Torrey (Cara Newman), Catherine Catalano and Jacob Torrey.
Internment will take place in Pennsylvania at a time to be announced.
