Maria Noemia (Filipe) Santos, 93, of Danbury, passed away peacefully at home, on Monday, June 13, 2011. Maria was born in Portugal and immigrated to the U.S. in 1959, where she settled in Yonkers, New York.
Maria is survived by six children, sons: Jose Carlos, Fernando, Pedro and Antonio Dos Santos, and her daughters, Dolores Peterson and Teresa Estrada. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carlos and infant son, Americo, as well as three grandchildren. She lived for her grandchildren, and was happiest when they would visit and ask for her batatas fritas, kale soup or her homemade bread. She was an avid gardener until the age of 90.
The family will receive friends at the Green Funeral Home 57 Main St., Danbury, on Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Yonkers, NY, on Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Yonkers.
