Marie Kornhaas

Marie was born in Danbury, CT, a daughter to the late Mary Rotella Fabiano and Thomas Fabiano. She attended St. Peter School and was a 1951 graduate of Danbury High School. Marie graduated as a Registered Nurse from Danbury Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. She received her Bachelor Degree in Human Services from New Hampshire College in 1982.

Marie had a passion for nursing and spent an impressive 55 years at Danbury Hospital. She began her career as a staff nurse in OB/Gyn and moved on to the Emergency Room as Head Nurse and Asst. Manager. Next she moved to Out Patient Clinic and spent her last years as Case Manager for the Connecticut Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program where she was instrumental in developing the grant program.

She was a treasured volunteer at Dorothy Day Hospitality House, Kevin’s Community Center, Camp Corey, and numerous charitable organizations. She was member of the Women’s Club of Danbury and St. Joseph Parish in Danbury.

Marie was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Robert (Bob) Kornhaas, Sr., who she missed every day.

She is survived by her children: Robert J. Kornhaas, Jr., (Kathy); Marybeth Vandergrift (Andy); and Lauri Reinhart, (Mike); her grandchildren: RJ Kornhaas (Cristina), Ryan Kornhaas (Danielle), Allison Doherty (Trevor), Lauren Kaminsky (Tommy), Andrew Vandergrift Jr., James Reinhart (Suzy), Andy Reinhart, Emily Reinhart; her great grandchildren: Gabriel, Bianca, Leila, Scarlett, Dax, and Derek. Also surviving are her sister, Dolly Spain, and many very special nieces and nephews.

Marie loved fiercely. Her truest passion was her family. One of her greatest joys was to spend time with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

We will miss her dearly.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00am Thursday, September 4, 2025 at the Mausoleum of St. Peter Cemetery, 71 Lake Ave. Ext., Danbury, CT.
