It is with heavy hearts that the family of Pastor Michael Steven Garland announces his passing on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 4:12 PM at Danbury Hospital, surrounded by his devoted wife and their children.
Born in Yonkers, New York, Pastor Michael was the beloved son of Arthur and Mary Garland and was raised in Mount Vernon, NY. He pursued his spiritual and professional callings with great dedication, earning certifications in Theology from The Bible Church of Christ in the Bronx and in Technology from Empire Technical School in New York City.
Pastor Michael’s greatest passion was ministry. He faithfully lived out that calling by founding The Body of Christ Church of Danbury, where he touched countless lives through teaching, prayer, and service. He created outreach programs to equip and empower believers with tools for evangelism and devoted much of his time to volunteering in prisons and rehabilitation centers; He served the forgotten and underserved with compassion and grace. He will be remembered most for programs like CBL (Christian Basketball League), designed to connect unchurched youth with local churches. He also created Caye Road Kids, a children’s safety initiative that engaged children and parents in his family's neighborhood by organizing fun weekly activities, sporting events, and providing tips to help keep kids safe.
He leaves behind his cherished wife and their loving children, who carry forward his legacy of faith and service.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM. The service will be held at The United Methodist Church of Danbury, 5 Clapboard Ridge Rd., Danbury, CT. Burial to follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury, CT.
