Peter was born in Forest Hills, New York, on November 20, 1942, the son of Evajayne (Hamilton) and G. Kern Maier. He married Cynthia (“Cindy”) Woodbury Carpenter on March 27, 1965, in Cohoes, New York. They were married for nearly 58 years.
Peter was a Certified Public Accountant with Arthur Young & Company, Corning Inc., and Kirby Beals Maier. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in 1964 with a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering, and from Cornell University in 1972 with a Master of Business Administration. Peter served as an ordnance officer in the U.S. Army from 1964-1968 in the United States and West Germany. Some of Peter’s proudest professional accomplishments and happiest family times surrounded his assignment to Selb, West Germany, with Corning Inc. from 1981-1984. He was a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary International, was active in church and community service throughout his life, traveled extensively for work and pleasure, and loved sailing and playing bluegrass music on his mandolin.
He is survived by his wife Cindy; son David; daughter Sara Ketchum and her husband Simeon Ketchum; and three grandchildren: Juliette Becker, and James and Phoebe Ketchum.
A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Brookfield, CT, on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Rotary Foundation (https://www.rotary.org/en/about-rotary/rotary-foundation).
