

He was born in Danbury, CT on June 20, 1956 son of the late Gilbert (Bud) & Jean Van Valkenburg.
Pete attended Park Avenue Elementary School and graduated Danbury High School class of 1974 and went on to attend Norwalk State Technical College in 1976.
He loved adventure and to travel so he became a cross country truck driver and enjoyed seeing new places and meeting interesting people, which later gave him many fun stories to share with friends and family. He later worked at Berkshire Refrigeration and was a crane operator at Eastern Precast until his retirement in 2023.
Pete was a Girl Scout den dad, he made sure the campfires were safely put out and that the girl's were in their tents at lights out. Pete's Native American Indian heritage help give him a love for gardening and animals big and small. At times he seemed like a tough guy but he had a large heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand to all in need.
Pete enjoyed going to Mohegan Sun and Las Vegas casinos' with his wife. While he wasn't into gambling, he loved to people watch. Lake Compounce Amusement park became a summertime tradition with his family. You could find Pete many days tinkering in his shed working on his motorcycle (getting it ready to travel to Misquamicut in RI), his model trains and airplanes, rock tumbling, wood carvings and a variety of interests and hobbies. Pete's biggest passion was the love of drawing. His home was his castle and he enjoyed his yard and remodeling the interior of his house.
Pete was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Glen; his mother-in-law, Patricia Edwards; his step mother-in-law, June Edwards; and his great-grand niece, Makenzie Haupt.
He was loved and will be missed by all. He will be most missed by his wife of 17 years, Robin Edwards Van Valkenburg; his daughter, Candice Van Valkenburg; grandson, Pete Collazo; and his kitties, Xander & Zoey.
He is also survived by his two sisters-in-law: Heather Edwards (fiance, Jim Carmignani) and April Haupt (spouse, Gerry); his father-in-law, James Edwards; his 3 nephews: Matt Haupt (spouse Emily), Alex Haupt (Alexa) and James Haupt (Jane); his two great-grand nieces: Lillian and Kaylee Haupt; his three step brothers-in-law, Robert Dibetta (spouse, Karen), Chris Dibetta (spouse, Liz and step niece Abby), and Pete Dibetta; his cousins: Debbie Taylor, Rob Flade (spouse, Jim), John Flade (spouse, Jody) and many good friends who were there even when he was at his most vulnerable.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service at 1:00pm on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00pm - 1:00pm on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at the funeral home.
