Sister Ricketts was a member of the Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church for over 50 years and active in the choir as a member, also the usher board.
Phyllis was born in Jamaica to the late Mr. & Mrs. Richard and Iris Ricketts, schooled in Jamaica, WI. She migrated to the United States in 1967 to Danbury, Conn., a small hat town not knowing anyone but was determined to conquer and make a life of success, a true believer in God and oh she loved the Lord. She worked as a Nanny for Attorney Tom Collins, she knew who she was, did not put up with nonsense.
She ventured on to become a machine operator at USS Chemicals; the closing of the company took her to Branson Ultrasonic Corp., where she worked for over 35 years as a machine operator. Phyllis enjoyed working because she loved her independence. She also worked at Marshalls for 10 years. Retiring was not in her thoughts, but it was time. She was saddened, but she got to travel and enjoy her home, dinners, lunch, special functions. She loved being elegant, getting fancy, enjoyed dancing, shopping, cooking, and she could cook her fingers off, straight-forward, spoke her mind. Kindest person you’ll ever know.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents Mr. & Mrs. Richard and Iris Ricketts; son, Dermot Randall; brothers: Sydney, Radcliffe, Boyse and Keith Ricketts; her sister, Monica Ricketts-Thelwell; and her niece, Iris dawn Ricketts.
Phyllis is survived by her older sister, Mazie Mellis of Westmoreland, Jamaica, W.I.; her daughter, Joan Bennett Gayle; and her son, Elrick Bennett.
