With great sorrow and deep love, we announce the passing of Robert Allan P. Riego de Dios, a devoted father and husband, compassionate nurse, and beloved son, brother, and friend who departed this life on April 27th after a courageous battle with cancer.
Robert was the proud father of two sons, Allen and Robert. He lovingly provided them with opportunities he never had himself.
Robert was a loving husband to his wife, Jannette. Though opposites in many ways, their bond was built on balance, laughter, and unwavering commitment. In his final years, their connection deepened, even without words, she knew exactly what he needed. Their love, imperfect but enduring, carried them through every season of life together.
From the start of his nursing career, Robert was known for his exceptional skill and precision. As a new registered nurse, he quickly earned the nickname “sharp shooter” for his talent with IV insertions, especially with infants. His steady hands and gentle presence brought comfort to countless families and deep respect from his peers. A gifted and compassionate nurse, Robert dedicated his life to healing and helping others.
He was a man of many passions — a farmer, dancer, singer, marathon runner, cyclist, and swimmer; a lover of travel, adventure, and the open sea. Whether he was playing the drums, soaking in the sun on a beach, or exploring new destinations on cruises, Robert lived with a contagious energy for life.
A proud son of Maragondon, Cavite, and of the Philippines, Robert carried his roots with pride wherever he went. Each Christmas, he made it a tradition to give gifts, especially to children and families in need — spreading joy in the way he knew best: through kindness.
To his friends, Robert was the best kind — fun-loving, loyal, quick with a joke, and always reaching out with a call or message to remind you he was thinking of you.
To his three sisters, he was more than a brother — he was their rock, their steady support, and their protector.
As a son, his love, humility, and gratitude never wavered.
Even in the face of illness, Robert showed unwavering strength, resilience, and grace. He fought cancer with the same spirit he lived by — full of hope, courage, and faith.
His life was a beautiful example of love in action. He leaves behind a legacy of generosity, joy, and adventure. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A celebration of his life will be held at St. Marguerite on May 5th at 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00am. In honor of his memory, the family encourages you to live as he did — with generosity, joy, and a love for life.
Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull, CT
