Born on June 5, 1944, in Danbury, CT, Bert remained and worked in Danbury where she met her husband, Anthony “Tony” Caraluzzi, Jr. It was love at first sight for the two youngsters, and together they built a beautiful life together, which they shared with countless friends they met as members of Redding Country Club and The Colony Club in Bonita Springs, where they enjoyed the “snowbird” lifestyle. Bert was active her whole life, playing in tennis and paddleball tournaments and later learning to play golf in her 40s so she could be by her husband’s side on the golf course as well. Bert was also an avid walker and was known for walking several miles every day to help keep her mind and body strong.
She was an excellent cook and passed down many family recipes to her children, their spouses, and grandchildren, including several that even became popular items in their family grocery stores. She and Tony enjoyed traveling and together they visited South Africa, Italy (six times!), France, Spain, St. Croix, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico, along with many different places within the United States.
In the 81 years that Bert lived, she was so many things to so many people: she was a daughter, a sister, a friend, a wife, an aunt, a mom, a mother-in-law, and perhaps her favorite title: Grammie Bert. All who had the privilege of knowing her, loved her and received her generous love in return. She was quick to forgive, never uttered a bad word about anyone, had a level of patience that was unparalleled, and thoroughly loved spoiling her three grandchildren.
Bert was predeceased by her father Dominic Rotundo, mother Mary (Gillotti) Rotundo, brother Robert Rotundo, and sister Joan Peek.
Bert is survived by her husband of 58 years, Anthony (Tony) Caraluzzi, Jr.; her beloved children: Mark (Amy) of Sherman, CT and Jennifer Dimyan (Michael) of Newtown, CT; her cherished grandchildren: Christopher, Sophia, and Julia; and her brother, Bernie.
