Shirley Ann Atherton, age 59, passed away suddenly but peacefully on May 22nd 2018 in her home in Danbury CT. She was born January 18, 1959 in Norwalk, CT to Frank and Patricia (Rich) DeKany. She was a graduate of Henry Abbott Technical High School where she studied hair dressing and cosmetology. She married Robert Atherton on December 24, 1988 in Danbury, CT and went on to have 3 children; Joseph, Deni-Marie, and Tara-Rose and one grandchild Logan.
Shirley spent years working in the paper/printing business but came to find her true calling in antique dealing and the flea market world where she proudly described herself as a “flipper”. Shirley went on to become what most people only dream of and that was her own boss. She spent all her Saturdays and Sundays vending at the Maplewood indoor flea market and had many other outlets where she sold all her treasures she had found. Shirley was a woman who had a selfless heart and was known for taking in a variety of neglected and mistreated animals and just really wanted every living being around her to have the best quality of life possible. One thing was for sure, is when you met Shirley you did not forget Shirley.
For all family, friends and others whose lives Shirley touched are invited to the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, CT from 5pm-7pm on May 27, 2018. To remember, grieve, support and say farewell for now to an amazing woman, wife, mother, and friend.
