Thomas Eugene Cassidy, 53, originally from Stamford and a longtime resident of Danbury, CT, passed away suddenly on October 26, 2017. Tom was a loving and loyal husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. A native of Stamford, Tom graduated in 1982 from Stamford High School. Shortly after completing high school he joined the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 777 where he worked for 36 years before retiring this year. During these years Tom left an indelible mark on many Stamford landmarks and other large-scale construction projects across the state. Tom’s passion and dedication to his trade led to his election as Business Agent for the Local from 2005 to 2011. As Business Agent he also served on the Board of Trustees for their Pension. Tom’s sole reason for running for business agent was to represent and support his fellow Union Brothers and Sisters with a passion and determination to protect their jurisdiction, working conditions, benefits, collective bargaining agreement, but most of all to be there for the membership in everyday situations.
Tom’s compassion for helping people led him to help build Ann’s Place in Danbury, CT. Ann's Place provides comfort, support, and resources to people living with cancer and their loved ones. He brought together many of his union Brothers to help with the construction of Ann’s Place.
Whether it was enjoying a hobby or helping his friends or family, Tom enjoyed each day and lived his life to the fullest. Tom was most happy spending time with his wife and best friend, Stacey and their two dogs, at their Tall Oaks Ranch. Their shared passion for the outdoors included dirt bike riding, snowmobiling and spending time in the woods together and with friends. Tom was a member of and competed in NETRA (New England Trail Riders Association). He was an avid salt-water, fresh-water and ice fisherman as well as an accomplished hunter. His main joys were playing on his big boy toys, creating and building tracks and trails for his wife, family and friends to ride and enjoy with him. As well as just sitting in the woods and enjoying all the sights and sounds of nature. His love of life emanated in all that he did and touched.
Tom is survived by his wife of 27 years, Stacey (Romano) Cassidy. He is also survived by his parents, Robert and Elizabeth (Keely) Cassidy, Sr., his brothers and sisters: Robert and Marie Cassidy Jr., Maureen Cassidy, Michael Cassidy, Joanne and Kevin McNamara, and Paul and Sarah Cassidy, as well as his sister-in-law and her husband, Lori and Michael Frischkorn, and many nieces and nephews.
The Cassidy Family will receive the sympathy and condolences of family and friends on Friday, November 3, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, in Danbury. Hawaiian shirt attire is encouraged in memory of the "Hawaiian Shirt Friday" tradition that Tom himself started. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 8 Robinson Avenue, in Danbury.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Tom’s memory to Ann’s place or any local animal shelter in your area.
