Thomas was born in Port Arthur, TX, son of Charles Robert Stauffer and the late Claire Evans Stauffer. He graduated from Ridgefield High School class of 1978. Thomas was an accomplished machinist, having worked for several companies over the decades to produce parts for space flight. Thomas contributed to the construction of the Hubble Space Telescope and examples of his work are on display in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.
Thomas loved the outdoors and spent his free time camping across the country, white water kayaking, and getting lost on his motorcycle, all with his loyal sidekicks- his dogs Wishbone, and later, Skippy. One of his favorite places to be was at the family cottage in Prouts Neck, Maine, spending time around the fire with family. When he wasn't out exploring, Tom could often be found tinkering in his basement or garage. He had a wonderful, mechanical mind that didn't know the meaning of the word "impossible.”
Thomas’ family would like to thank his caregivers, doctors, and hospicefor their wonderful care and compassion during his illness.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western Connecticut, 39 Old Ridgebury Rd., Danbury, CT 06810.
