

We are saddened to announce the passing of our father, Arthur Ross Hartlen on December 17, 2020 at the age of 95. Born to William Verner and Alice (Bainbridge) Hartlen on March 29, 1925 in Westphal, dad was the youngest of seven children. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survived by son, John “Jack” (Shannon); daughters, Joy Cross (Wally) and Joan Grimes (Mike); grandchildren, Angela Smith, Laura Brewer, Stephanie and Heather Hartlen, Christopher and Cameron Grimes; great-grandchildren, Bailey, Meghan and Isla. Predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Audrey Mae (Thornham)(2016); sisters, Isobel Woodworth and Elsie Hartlen; brothers, Clarence, Lorne, Frank and Kenneth. He worked for Halifax Regional School Board from 1965 to 1990 when he retired from his position as Assistant Supervisor of Maintenance Personnel. After retirement, he pursued his hobby of gold mining. His interests included hockey, gardening and keeping up with current events. He was a Warden at St. John’s Anglican Church in Westphal for eleven years and was a Freemason, a member of Cornwallis Lodge for many years. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a service will be held at a later date.
