

CAIN, Aubrey – 89 of North Preston, passed away peacefully at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in North Preston, he was the son of the late Robert and Annie (Cain) Simmonds and was raised by grandparents, the late William and Charlotte (West) Cain.
He served as president of the Baptist Young People Union (BYPU) of St. Thomas United Baptist Church prior to moving to Toronto. He transferred his membership to First Baptist Church, Toronto and was a member of the Men’s Group of that church for many years before returning home to Nova Scotia. He was employed with the Ontario Housing Authority until his retirement. He enjoyed weekly gatherings with his family and friends. His favourite past time was playing Bingo.
He is survived by a son Kevin Sparks, Scarborough; daughters Diane Hardin, Raleigh, NC; Joyce Mintis-Watson, Halifax; brothers Roland (Sharon), Toronto; Morton (Delorise), Wayne (Donalda), both of North Preston; sisters Edith Sparks, Josephine Johnson, Madge, Alfreda Smith and Norma Downey, all of North Preston. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces, Godchild Edward “Bubbles” Cain and special friend Wylie Cain, Montague Mines. He was predeceased by a daughter Betty Arab, sons Allen Fraser and Kenny Mintis, brothers Ralph, Robert, Eric, Stanford, Robert, James, Alfred, Bernard, Harold, Gordon; sisters Suella, Madeline, Stella, Dorothy, Lena, Rita, Lillian and Rosella; nephew Pastor Ernie Simmonds; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 7-9 pm Monday February 6, with a Funeral Service 1 pm Tuesday February 7, both in Saint Thomas United Baptist Church, North Preston. Reverend Wallace Smith. Burial in North Preston Community Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to Saint Thomas United Baptist Church Building Fund .
