

She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Edna Hawkins (Smith), her dear husband, James Edward Duncan and her beloved son, Andrew James Duncan. Also predeceased by her brothers, Maurice Hawkins and Ralph Hawkins.
Survived by her daughter, Terry Matthews, three grandchildren, Abby (Kevin), Ian (Shannon) and Ethan; and four great-grandsons, Liam, Sam, Auryn and Jace, all of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Also survived by her two sisters, Phyllis McColl (Ed) of Hamiton, Ontario and Nancy Kasten (John) of Arizona.
Barbara was a long-time employee of Queen’s University in various departments, including Department of Extension, Biology and CFRC Radio. She worked at the Kingston Advertising Agency, Kingston Construction Association and was the Badge Secretary for the Boy Scouts for many years.
She was an avid gardener and was often seen walking her cherished Labrador Retrievers in the neighbourhood. She was a great supporter of animal welfare. Donations in her name can be made to the Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre, Napanee, Ontario. https://sandypineswildlife.org/
