

Mantley, Bertha May- 93, former resident of Africville, residing in Dartmouth for 47 years, passed away peacefully at the Q.E.II Hospital on October 28, 2013 with her two daughters by her side. She died of a sudden heart attack, along with a broken heart from the loss of her two youngest sons. Bertha lived a good and full life right to the end. She was vibrant, full of spirit and loved by many. She loved life and to give advice when needed. Bertha loved her community, her friends and most of all, her church. She was an avid member of Victoria Road Baptist Church. She loved singing God’s hymns and was one of God’s chosen. Bertha worked at Basin View Home and Province House where she received many awards. She is preceded by her husband Charles Mantley, Sr. and sons Stephen and Lionel. She is survived by her daughters Shirley Jafralie, Montreal; Barbara Sambury, Houston, Texas; Beverly Dartmouth; Cynthia (Patrick), Calgary; Charlotte, Toronto; Charlene (Kevin McDermott), Dartmouth; special daughter Daina (Fred Crooks), Dartmouth; sons Leslie (Brenda) Edmonton; Charles (Theresa) Calgary; Allan and Christopher, Dartmouth; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth on Sunday, November 3 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service on Monday, November 4 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 100 Ochterloney St., Dartmouth. Rev. Cheryl Ann Beals, Pastor Wanda Lawrence, co-officiating Rev. Sherrolyn Riley and Rev. Elias Mutale assisting. Private family burial to take place in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.
