Bo was born on August 27, 1947, in the beautiful Margaree Valley, Cape Breton, to Sanford and Martha Hart. In her early years, Bo left Cape Breton to pursue training and a career in the nursing profession. She later chose to retire early to dedicate herself to raising her children. Over the next four decades, she extended her nurturing spirit by helping to raise many other children as a devoted nanny.
Bo was a beloved member of “The Mom Tribe” on Marilyn Drive, where she formed lifelong friendships. She was also deeply involved with the Mic Mac Amateur Aquatic Club, where she spent countless hours volunteering and enjoying the camaraderie of “The Sisterhood” of women at the club. Her final professional role was with the Regional School District’s Lunch Program, a fitting culmination of her lifelong love for children.
Bo is survived by her daughter, Lorie Collins, and Lorie’s children, Maddison and Tyler; her son, Steven Collins, and his children, Cassandra and Nathan; her close cousin, Edith Mosher; Ruth and Ken DeMolitor (Dawn, Leah, and Trayes); Margaret Burton (Jeffery, Matthew); Janet and Ken Wood (Kevin, Laura, and Michelle); and a large circle of dear friends. Among those friends, Barb and Geri held a special place in Bo’s heart. They remained her lifelong friends and stood by her side during her final moments, a gesture of love and devotion that will always be cherished. They meant so much to Bo and were a source of comfort and strength throughout her life.
She was predeceased by her parents, Sanford and Martha Hart, and her brother, Frederick Hart and Amanda Burton.
Bo often spoke fondly of her family and many friends, treasuring the memories they created together and carrying their love with her throughout her life.
Bo’s legacy is one of love, care, and friendship. She touched the lives of countless children and adults with her kindness and willingness to help, no matter the task or the time it required. Her pride in her children and grandchildren was evident, and she ensured that every holiday and special occasion was celebrated with joy and thoughtfulness.
In her later years, Bo faced the challenges of dementia, which gradually took away her quality of life. Despite this, she fought to remain independent for as long as possible. Her family and friends are deeply grateful to the dedicated staff at Northwood and Bissett Court for their compassionate care during her time of need.
A celebration of Bo’s life will be held at MicMac ACC, 192 Prince Albert Road, Dartmouth on Friday, May 15, 2-4 pm with brief tributes beginning at 2:30pm. Those who wish to honour Bo’s memory are encouraged to make a donation to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of their choice.
Bo will be forever remembered for her unwavering love, her generous spirit, and the countless lives she touched. She will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
