
Smith, Carol Ann – beloved wife of the late Donald George Smith, Lieutenant Commander OMMCD, passed away peacefully in Halifax on November 15, 2010. Born in 1934, Carol was the daughter of Margaret (Linihan) and Gerald McSweeny. Educated at College Street School, Carol’s career included employment in Halifax and Boston. On November 15th, 1958 Carol and Don were married. Together, they raised their children Gregory Michael and Heather Ann in Dartmouth. Carol worked for many years at the Dartmouth Medical Centre, volunteered for several community organizations and performed with choral groups including the Royal Nova Scotia Tattoo Choir. Carol possessed a vibrant personality and a beautiful smile. Her joy of living and devotion to family and friends was inspiring to all who knew her. Carol’s faith enabled her to accept her illness with grace and dignity. Remembering her with love and gratitude are son Greg, his wife Anne (Cahill) and their daughter Gillian, daughter Heather and her children Laura and Evan, sister Geraldine Moerke (Calgary), brother David (Janet) McSweeny, uncle Gordon (Marge) McSweeny, sister in-law Kay Smith, brothers in-law Gordon Roche and John Freeman, cherished friend Claire (Flemming) Dunn and many adored nieces and nephews. Carol was predeceased by her husband Don, parents Gerald and Margaret McSweeny, and sisters, Jean Roche and Shirley Freeman. A memorial mass will be celebrated by Rev. Owen Connolly and Rev. Jim Richards at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Maple Street, Dartmouth, on Saturday, November 20th at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the MicMac AAC, Prince Albert Rd., Dartmouth. Interment at a later date in Second Peninsula Cemetery, Lunenburg County. Family flowers only.
