

Ettinger, Charlotte Jean - 99, Shubenacadie/Dartmouth - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother on Thursday, July 8, 2010, in Melville Lodge Care Centre, Halifax. Born on November 20, 1910, in Amherst Head, she was a daughter of the late Wylie and Blanche (Mason) Gorveatt. She and Dad raised their children in Shubenacadie and in 1942 moved to Dartmouth. Mom worked for Jacobson Bros., Dartmouth, and the Civic Hospital in Halifax. She was a very active member of Stairs Memorial United Church, singing in the choir and a long-time member of United Church Women. Mom loved playing bridge and enjoyed the activities at the Senior Centre, Ochterloney Street, where she lived for over 20 years. With failing heath, she entered Dartmouth General Hospital in January of this year, then moved to Melville Lodge where she was lovingly cared for by the faithful staff. She is survived by her children, Doreen (Guy) Smith, Dartmouth; Joyce (Robert) Gammon, Guelph, Ont.; R. E. "Buddy" Ettinger and Joyce, Kentville; Marjorie (George) Mason, Dartmouth; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren; as well as many dear nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Rufus Earl; infant son, George Keith; sisters |Shirley Parker, Doris Hilchie, Ethel Harkness; and brother, Lester Gorveatt. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 Sunday in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth, where a memorial service will be held on Monday, July 12 at 2 p.m. Please join us for tea and memories following the service.
