David Edgar Conrad

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Edgar Conrad, beloved husband, brother and uncle at the age of 88. David passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Oakwood Terrace Nursing Home in Dartmouth with his loving wife, Carolyn, by his side. Born in Rose Bay, NS on September 9, 1935, he was the son of the late Norman and Pearl (Ritcey) Conrad.

David enjoyed his retirement years after a long career with CBC. He was an avid curler and golfer (he competed on the NS team at the 1968 Brier in Kelowna, BC, and on the NS team at the 2003 Canadian Senior Men’s Championships in Lethbridge, AB). He was a life member of the Mayflower Curling Club and a past member of Oakfield Golf & Country Club. He enjoyed weekly coffee meetings with his buddies. He was also a longstanding member of the Shriners. David very much enjoyed time with his family and friends, and special neighbor, John Miller.

David is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Carolyn Margaret (Allen) Conrad, brother Robert (Bob) Conrad, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Irene (Conrad) and Gerry Falkenham, sister-in-law Joan (Clarke) Conrad, and nephew Doug Falkenham (Gale).

Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will be held at a later date in Mount Olive Cemetery, Halifax.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of NS. Cards of condolence may be sent to Carolyn Conrad c/o Wendy Slaunwhite, 7 Forest Hills Parkway, Unit 211, Cole Harbour, NS B2W 0M4.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful, dedicated doctors, nurses and support staff at the VG Hospital for their compassionate care and support, as well as the amazing team who took such good care of David during his short stay at Oakwood Terrace until his passing.

David’s kind and fun-loving nature, his quick wit and sense of humor will be missed and always remembered.
