FRASER, Delia Mae – It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected peaceful passing of our mother, Delia Mae Fraser, age 97, of Kingston, NS, at the Dartmouth General Hospital on August 30, 2012, while visiting with her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda & Bruce Shaw, in Porters Lake. Delia was born July 9, 1915, in Dayspring, Lun. Co., N.S., the eldest daughter of the late Phinnie and Emma (Naugler) Snyder. Upon graduation from high school, she was employed as a domestic at the White Point Beach Lodge. Later, while employed as House Manager by Mr. & Mrs. Lionel Dunsmore, Superintendent of the Imperial Oil Refinery, she had the opportunity to meet many noted visitors, most notable of which was Charles Lindberg. She had the pleasure of preparing dinner and travel lunches for him during an overnight stay while he was on a return flight to the USA. In 1936 she married Ernest Frank Fraser, Jr., of Dartmouth. They lived in Dartmouth, where, during the war years, their home was considered a “home away from home” by many family members and friends from other provinces while their ships were in port. Ernie & Delia moved to East LaHave in 1961 where they enjoyed their lovely home on the LaHave River. Following Ernie’s passing in 1967, she moved to her new home in Middle LaHave. While residing there, she was an active member of St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church. For the past 26 years she resided in Kingston, NS, where she attended All Saint’s Anglican Church. Delia enjoyed the solitude and tranquility that her apartment offered, doing her knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, cross-stitching, reading, jigsaw puzzles, and solving many types of puzzle books which she did right up to the time of her passing. She always looked forward to her summer visits to Riverport with her daughter & son-in-law, Janet & Richard Lohnes and family, and loved any opportunity that she had to visit the LaHave River area. Delia was predeceased by her loving husband, Ernest; infant son, David; son-in-law , Edward Sawler, grandson, Byron Olshefsky; brothers, George, Arnold and Reginald Snyder; sisters, Mary Schmeisser, Kathleen Mailman, and Doris Hayward. She is lovingly remembered and will be sadly missed by her son, Frank (Elaine) Fraser, Bedford; daughters, Elizabeth “Betty” Sawler, Melvern Square; Janet (Richard) Lohnes, Terrace Bay, ON; and Brenda (Bruce) Shaw, Porter’s Lake; grandchildren, Richard (Charlene) Fraser; Cheryl Fraser; Paul (Els) Olshefsky; Kevin (Therese) Olshefsky; Heather Lohnes; Jennifer (Peter) Heenan; Jason (Sonia) Cooke; Matthew Cooke; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Emily Verlaan; Patrick Fraser, Talia and Kyria Olshefsky; Sarah, Julie and Adam Heenan; Haydden and Jewel Cooke; brother, Harold Snyder, Bridgewater; sisters, Thelma Reid, Halifax; Jean Corkum, Dayspring; Karen (David) Wilkie, Bridgewater; and several special nieces and nephews.
