

Doris Winifred Brannan (Barrett) of Halifax passed away Thursday, January 20 at the Halifax Infirmary. She was 87. Doris was born in London, England and was the daughter of Albert and Kathleen (Griffin) Barrett. It was in London, where Doris met Samuel Peter Brannan. They married and Doris came to Canada as a War Bride. They lived many years in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan before moving east to Halifax in 1960. She was a member of Ashburn Golf Club and the Saraquay Club. Over the years she attended Bethany and St James United churches. Doris had fond memories of travels with her husband Sam to England, Arizona, Hawaii, California, Florida and many places across Canada .She enjoyed golf and played for many years in Halifax and at their winter home in Sarasota. She enjoyed a good cup of tea, knitting, reading and shopping as well as getting dressed up to go out to dinner. Doris dearly loved her grandchildren and was known as “GG” to her three great grandsons. In recent years, she moved to Cameron Hall at Shannex Parkland where she made many new friends. She will be especially missed by her dear friend Stanley Dawe (Cameron Hall). She is survived by her son Jim (Anne) Brannan of Bridgewater and daughter Carol (Stephen ) Hiltz of Dartmouth. She has five grandchildren: Jim Brannan (Lunenburg) Christopher Brannan (Halifax), Matthew Brannan (Halifax), Leigh-Anne (Matthew) Dean in Montreal and Amanda (Jeffery) Gallagher in Dartmouth. She has three great grandsons, Samuel, Nicholas and Henry Dean in Montreal. She has a brother Stan Barrett and a sister Peg Egan both in London, England as well as several special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Samuel Brannan, her husband of 47 years, her brother Fred Barrett and sister Eileen Monks (England). Special Thanks to Dr. Phillips and the medical staff of 8.1 North at the Halifax Infirmary for their kindness and caring. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial service and reception will be held Monday, January 24 at Cameron Hall, Parkland Estates in Halifax from 2-4. Family flowers only.
